Anti-choicers, trying to use the bible in a dishonest and desperate attempt to oppose abortion

I see many Christians saying that abortion is a crime against God. But, it’s not a wonder that they are hard-pressed to find a conclusive Biblical statement to corroborate their position. In their determination to control women, they have been forced to scrape for indirect passages that have to be twisted and interpreted to justify their views.

First, the go to verse:

COMMANDMENT 6 - Exodus 20:13 - “You shall not murder.”

~But: The bible commands death for breaking any of the 10 commandments. This truth should be posted wherever they are mandated to be displayed.

Jeremiah 1:4-5 (The Call of Jeremiah)

4 The word of the Lord came to me, saying,

5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.

Exodus 21:22-24

“When men strive together, and hurt a woman with child, so that there is a miscarriage, and yet no harm follows, the one who hurt her shall be fined, according as the woman’s husband shall lay upon; and he shall pay as the judges determine. If any harm follows, then you shall give life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth…”

~The problem here is that the man who injures a pregnant woman in the process shall repay her according to the degree of injury inflicted upon her, not the fetus. I am often dumbfounded by the way Christians can assume that abortion is wrong judging by these feeble verses, when the Bible clearly advocates infanticide and many other atrocities against children and pregnant women.

Genesis 1:27

“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

~God makes babies:

Genesis 4:1

And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord.

~A personal conversation with Adam and Eve, somehow applies to everyone forever:

Genesis 1:28

God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

~A personal conversation with Noah, somehow applies to everyone forever:

Genesis 9:1 Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth.

Genesis 9:7 As for you, be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth and increase upon it.”

Leviticus 26:9 “‘I will look on you with favor and make you fruitful and increase your numbers, and I will keep my covenant with you.

Psalm 127:3

Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward.

~Christians claim that Human life begins in the womb because their god creates each person in the womb.

~People are so special. The bible distinguishes between human life and animal life, since the killing of animals has been allowed by God from as early as just after the fall. It would be helpful to first define what makes human life different from that of the animals. The bible claims that people have souls and endowed with a spirit.

1 Thessalonians 5:23

Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Genesis 9:4

“Only you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.

~God considers blood to be the basis for life and the shedding of human blood, which results in death, to be murder. See commandment 6 again.

The development of the cardiovascular system -

… Begins to develop toward the end of the third week

… Heart starts to beat at the beginning of the fourth week

… The critical period of heart development is from day 20 to day 50 after fertilization.

Rape and incest:

~The bible, prohibits executing a child for the crime of his/her father. This means that even the tragic cases of pregnancies due to incest or rape are no justification for killing the innocent child conceived.

Ezekiel 18:20

The one who sins is the one who will die. The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. The righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against them.

~Christian Abortions….hypocrites….Do what we say and not what we do!

“Women identifying themselves as Protestants obtain 37.4% of all abortions in the U.S.; Catholic women account for 31.3%, Jewish women account for 1.3%, and women with no religious affiliation obtain 23.7% of all abortions. 18% of all abortions are performed on women who identify themselves as ‘Born-again/Evangelical’.”

Christians Have as Many Abortions as Everyone Else, Catholics Have More

A new study by The Center For Reason (www.CenterForReason.com) finds that Christians have just as many abortions as their non-Christian counterparts. The study concludes that in the year 2000, Christians were responsible for 570,000 abortions. Catholics were found to be the worst offenders, with abortion rates higher than the national average.

San Francisco, Calif. (PRWEB) March 12, 2006 — With over one million abortions being performed in the US each year, this issue has dominated the political landscape. In recent years the rhetoric has escalated, with the pro-life movement becoming a flagship for Christian morality and ethics. The prevailing Christian doctrine—that abortion is murder—has polarized the issue, firmly placing the vast majority of Christians on the pro-life side of the debate.

Incendiary comments by some of the more outspoken Christian figureheads have sought to portray abortion as an “evil” perpetrated by the non-Christian left. In response to this, The Center For Reason, a private research group, undertook a study to test the premise: “Christians have fewer abortions than non-Christians”. The results disproved the premise.

The study, available as a downloadable report, reveals that Christians have just as many abortions as non-Christians. Data analyzed for all fifty states show that the rate of abortion is the same in the most-Christian segments of the population as it is in the least-Christian. The most-Catholic segments, on the other hand, showed significantly higher abortion rates.

All data sources used in the study are publicly available, and are referenced in the report. All raw data and calculated values are tabulated in the report, to allow full verification of the results.

The report, titled “The Landscape of Abortion”, may be downloaded.

This research was undertaken to test the premise: “Christians have fewer abortions than non-Christians”. This topic was chosen in response to the very-public stance of certain far-right Christian groups, who assert that abortion is an evil perpetrated by the non-Christian left.

The results disproved the premise. It transpires that Christians have just as many abortions as their non-Christian counterparts. The study concludes that in the year 2000, Christians had approximately 570,000 abortions. Within the Christian segment, Catholics were found to have abortion rates significantly higher than the national average.
